As our Payroll and Benefits Manager, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring our employees are supported through accurate payroll, strong benefits administration, and compliant, scalable processes that support a growing professional services organization. This role partners closely with HR, Finance, and Total Rewards leadership and helps deliver a reliable, high-quality employee experience across payroll, reimbursements, and benefits operations.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state, remote workforce of 400+ employees
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations across jurisdictions
  • Partner with HR and Finance to reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies
  • Support FLSA classification audits and maintain accurate payroll system updates
  • Manage expense reimbursement processing, audits, and policy compliance tracking
  • Maintain documentation supporting audits and regulatory requirements
  • Administer day-to-day benefits operations including enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Serve as a primary employee contact for benefits eligibility, elections, and routine questions
  • Support ACA reporting, retirement plan deductions, and annual 401(k) audit preparation
  • Coordinate with carriers and third-party administrators to resolve eligibility and file issues
  • Deliver benefits orientation sessions for new hires
  • Contribute to HR process improvement initiatives that enhance employee experience and operational efficiency

Requirements

  • 5+ years of payroll and benefits administration experience
  • Demonstrated experience processing payroll for multi-state U.S. organizations
  • Strong hands-on experience working in BambooHR
  • Experience investigating payroll discrepancies, benefits claims issues, or reconciliation variances
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Experience supporting compliance across ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, and COBRA
  • Experience preparing documentation for 401(k) audits
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with HR and Finance
  • A bachelor’s degree in HR, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • CEBS, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
  • Experience supporting a remote or distributed workforce
  • Experience working with self-funded health plans
  • Experience improving payroll or benefits processes in a scaling organization
  • Experience supporting expense reimbursement compliance and audits

Nice to have

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • CEBS, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
