We are looking for a Payroll Administrator to oversee payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce in Durham, North Carolina. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented payroll specialist who can independently manage end-to-end processing, maintain compliance across varying state requirements, and handle a broad range of compensation elements. The role also partners closely with internal teams to ensure employees are paid accurately and payroll-related questions are resolved promptly.
Job Responsibility
Manage the complete payroll cycle independently, serving as the primary point of ownership for payroll operations
Process bi-weekly payroll for a workforce of more than 600 employees with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness
Administer payroll activities across 19 states while maintaining compliance with applicable wage and tax regulations
Calculate and process multiple forms of compensation, including hourly pay, salaries, bonuses, per diem payments, and travel reimbursements
Support retirement plan-related payroll activities, including coordination for 401(k) administration
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and complex pay issues in a timely manner
Partner with internal departments and stakeholders to validate payroll data, improve accuracy, and support compliance requirements
Requirements
At least 5 years of payroll experience in a detail-oriented setting
Proven ability to run full-cycle payroll independently with minimal supervision
Experience processing payroll for employee populations of 500 or more
Strong background managing payroll across multiple states
Knowledge of complex payroll structures and related compliance considerations
Hands-on experience with UKG Pro or UKG Ready
Familiarity with 401(k) payroll administration
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and address payroll issues as they arise
