We are looking for a Payroll Administrator to support payroll operations for a busy service organization in Houston, Texas. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can learn quickly, communicate effectively across departments, and manage payroll-related tasks with accuracy in a fully onsite environment. The position plays an important role in keeping payroll activities organized and timely for a large employee population while providing coverage during an extended leave period. Candidates who are detail-oriented and comfortable handling sensitive information will be well suited for this role.
Job Responsibility:
Review employee time records for completeness and accuracy, including overtime and hour validations before payroll deadlines
Approve time entries and resolve missing or inconsistent information by working closely with supervisors and internal teams
Examine personnel and pay-related documentation to confirm updates are reflected correctly in payroll records
Investigate payroll variances, deduction changes, and payment issues, then complete needed corrections in a timely manner
Handle payroll adjustments such as voided payments, rejected direct deposits, stale checks, and other off-cycle corrections
Administer items such as garnishments, tax levies, student loan deductions, and related third-party payment requests
Support reconciliation activities and research historical payroll information to address discrepancies and manual corrections
Maintain organized payroll documentation through proper filing, scanning, and record retention practices
Partner with HR and Accounting to coordinate updates, resolve exceptions, and help ensure smooth payroll processing for a workforce of approximately 900 employees
Assist with payroll preparation across biweekly cycles for most employees, with additional exposure to monthly payroll support as needed
Requirements:
Prior payroll experience is required, preferably supporting a workforce of more than 500 employees
Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now is strongly preferred
Basic Excel skills and comfort working within payroll and timekeeping systems are required
Strong attention to detail with the ability to audit timecards, identify discrepancies, and protect confidential information
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with supervisors, HR, and Accounting in a fast-paced office setting
Ability to learn procedures quickly and contribute with minimal delay in a structured, compliance-focused environment
Organized work style with the ability to manage multiple payroll support tasks and meet recurring deadlines
Nice to have:
Exposure to monthly or international payroll processes, including UK payroll, is a plus
