Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Administrator to support payroll operations for a construction organization in Long Beach, California. This Long-term Contract position focuses on processing weekly payroll accurately and on schedule for both union and non-union employees while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance standards. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, clear communication, and the ability to manage payroll questions and reporting in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage the timely review and completion of timesheet entries so payroll can be finalized by established weekly deadlines
  • Process weekly payroll for union and non-union employees using company systems, verifying hours worked and confirming totals align with submitted time records
  • Prepare recurring payroll-related reports for internal use and external reporting needs, including scheduled monthly union documentation
  • Investigate payroll-related questions, determine when adjustments are necessary, and coordinate corrections as needed
  • Detect inconsistencies in payroll data, resolve routine issues independently, and escalate more complex matters to payroll leadership
  • Provide responsive support to internal teams and external contacts regarding payroll, timekeeping, and expense-related inquiries
  • Develop productive working relationships with personnel across multiple jobsites while assisting with analysis tied to labor hours and expense records
  • Safeguard employee records and payroll information in accordance with privacy regulations and company confidentiality expectations

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of payroll experience, preferably including full-cycle payroll processing
  • Experience handling payroll for employee populations ranging from 101 to 500 employees
  • Working knowledge of multi-state payroll practices and wage and hour requirements
  • Familiarity with union payroll
  • exposure to certified payroll is beneficial
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to sort, summarize, average, and review data accurately
  • Strong critical thinking, organization, and prioritization skills with a high level of accuracy in calculations and data review
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for addressing payroll questions and resolving discrepancies
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • experience with Sage 300 and Ceridian Dayforce is a plus
