Oversee the complete bi-weekly payroll cycle for multiple entities, ensuring timely and accurate processing for a workforce of more than 750 employees across several states using Workday payroll tools
Examine timekeeping records before each payroll run, address missing or inconsistent punches, and work closely with supervisors to confirm accurate submission of hours
Verify payroll inputs such as labor allocations, incentive payments, bonus earnings, and vehicle-related allowances to ensure proper calculation and coding
Reconcile payroll funding and settlement activity, confirm disbursements, and research accounting variances or journal issues to support accurate financial reporting
Administer wage garnishments, manage rejected payroll payments, and respond to payroll tax agency notices with appropriate follow-up and resolution
Coordinate new state payroll tax registrations and support tax code configuration in Workday as business operations expand into additional jurisdictions
Process special payroll requests including off-cycle runs and reversals when corrections or urgent payments are required
Lead year-end payroll activities by preparing, reviewing, and distributing W-2 documents, while also assisting with retirement plan testing, Form 5500 support, and 401(k) audit needs
Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for employee and manager payroll inquiries, providing clear guidance and timely issue resolution
Requirements:
At least 5 years of experience managing full-cycle payroll, including multi-state processing for large employee populations
Strong hands-on expertise with Workday Payroll and Workday Time & Attendance in a complex operational environment
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
Solid understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax rules, year-end reporting obligations, and garnishment administration
Demonstrated strength in payroll auditing, reconciliations, and troubleshooting with exceptional attention to detail
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across departments and support employees and managers effectively
Experience handling payroll for multiple legal entities is preferred
Payroll certification and advanced Excel capabilities are preferred, along with familiarity with retirement deductions or third-party tax compliance platforms
