We are looking for an experienced Payroll Accountant to join our team in Lexington, South Carolina, on a long-term contract basis. This role involves managing payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and confidentiality. You will play a key role in processing payroll, handling tax filings, and supporting system transitions while collaborating closely with HR and accounting teams.
Job Responsibility:
Process weekly payroll for permanent and part-time employees across multiple states, ensuring precision and confidentiality
Handle payroll-related tax filings, including biweekly and quarterly payments, while adhering to established documentation and checklists
Support ongoing payroll system transitions, contributing to the successful implementation of the Workday platform
Manage payroll adjustments such as employee status updates, terminations, and position changes
Maintain detailed and accurate payroll records, following comprehensive process documentation
Collaborate with HR and accounting teams to ensure seamless payroll operations and address employee inquiries
Assist with ad-hoc payroll tasks, including navigating changes in employee status or tax jurisdictions
Provide knowledge transfer during the overlap training period with the current payroll team member
Ensure compliance with multi-state payroll regulations and manage high-volume periods effectively
Requirements:
Proven experience in processing multi-state payroll, ideally for organizations with over 1,000 employees
Proficiency in Microsoft Great Plains is required
Strong knowledge of payroll tax reporting and compliance across multiple jurisdictions
Demonstrated ability to follow and maintain detailed process documentation accurately
Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication skills for collaborating with diverse teams and addressing payroll inquiries
Keen attention to detail and precision in handling manual processes
Nice to have:
Familiarity with Workday is advantageous
Experience with payroll system implementations or transitions is highly desirable
