We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to manage payroll processing and maintain accurate financial records. The ideal candidate will handle all aspects of payroll administration while also supporting bookkeeping tasks, including expense tracking, account reconciliation, and financial reporting. This dual role is critical for ensuring compliance with financial regulations and accurate reporting in support of organizational objectives.
Job Responsibility:
Process payroll for employees accurately and on time, including calculations, deductions, and benefits
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, including tax filings and garnishments
Maintain payroll records and ensure confidentiality of employee compensation information
Handle payroll discrepancies, process adjustments, and resolve employee payroll inquiries
Reconcile payroll reports and ensure accuracy before final submission
Collaborate with Finance & Accounting teams to ensure payroll entries align with the company’s books
Manage accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and general ledger (GL) entries
Record financial transactions and reconcile accounts to ensure consistency with ledger balances
Prepare month-end and year-end closing reports, including journal entries
Collaborate with external auditors for payroll and financial audits
Monitor cash flow and budgets to provide financial forecasts as needed
Maintain documentation for policies and procedures related to accounting, payroll, and compliance
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field strongly preferred
Experience in a nonprofit industry is a plus
Proven experience in both payroll administration and bookkeeping roles (3+ years preferred)
Strong knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, or similar) and accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or NetSuite
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas and financial modeling
Familiarity with payroll laws and regulations, as well as Generally Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Nice to have:
Experience in staffing industry payroll processes is a plus
Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism
Strong communication and organizational skills
Capability to meet strict deadlines while multitasking effectively
Understanding of tax compliance processes related to payroll (e.g., W-2s, 1099s, and quarterly filings)
