Are you an experienced accounts payable professional looking for your next opportunity in a dynamic, purpose-driven university? We are looking for a Payments Assistant to join our Finance team at Birkbeck, University of London this Summer 2026. As Payments Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring our suppliers are paid accurately and on time, providing an excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Job Responsibility

  • Processing invoices and credit notes
  • Reconciling supplier accounts
  • Handling queries
  • Supporting the preparation of BACS and international payment runs
  • Maintaining supplier records
  • Supporting users of our Business World (Agresso) finance system.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of accounts payable systems and processes, as well as financial regulations relevant to accounts payable including VAT treatment of invoices
  • Understanding of three-way matching and coding supplier invoices, and experience of preparing BACS payment runs
  • Proven IT skills and sound organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
