Job Description:

Kinsley is seeking self-motivated, dependable, hard-working Paving Operators/ Paving Laborers and Concrete Finishers to join our paving Utilities patching crews. This position is based out of our Ephrata, PA Office. A successful candidate should be able to work in a crew environment and have a general knowledge of paving and patching.

Job Responsibility:

  • Operate asphalt pavers, rollers and related heavy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
  • Read and interpret plans, grades and job specifications
  • Assist with set up and break down of paving equipment as needed
  • Help maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
  • Support other crew members during paving operations when required
  • Shovel and lute asphalt
  • Take and understand instructions from crew leaders
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of paving
  • Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed
  • Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch, depth, and aligned accurately
  • Install reinforcing rebar or mesh wire to strengthen the concrete
  • Spread, level and smooth concrete using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand, or power screed and float
  • Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affects the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process to ensure a durable, smooth and uniform finish
  • Produce rough concrete surface using broom
  • Mold expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge
  • Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete and move chute to direct concrete
  • Operate power vibrator to compact concrete
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures

Requirements:

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a valid DOT medical certification throughout employment
  • Ability to work in a crew-based environment
  • Previous experience operating asphalt pavers or other heavy equipment such as rollers, skid steers and graders
  • Punctuality and dependability are required, must have transportation to get to assigned job sites
  • Previous asphalt paving experience is preferred
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required
  • Valid PA driver’s license and reliable transportation required
