The role will provide opportunities for the individual to contribute to the development of pavement schemes, supporting design activities from concept through to detailed design under the guidance of senior engineers. The role will also provide the opportunity to follow through the practical construction onsite across the M25 network. The Pavement Engineer will be expected to provide technical support to engineering reviews with stakeholders and contribute to the development of pavement designs that consider safe, efficient and buildable construction processes. The role will require effective design coordination, checking the documentation produced by Framework Consultants and supporting the management of design workloads in line with delivery priorities, programme constraints and road space booking requirements. The role will require close working relationships with Asset engineers, Project Managers and designers responsible for relevant assets. General: The role will focus on supporting the delivery of cost-effective pavement design solutions that maintain or improve the M25 highways asset in accordance with agreed standards and stakeholder requirements. Contribute to the delivery of the outcomes agreed with the National Highways and Connect Plus DBFO Co. to programme and budget, and to meet CPS quality standards. Coordinate with Design, Asset and PM teams and organisations (NH SES).
Job Responsibility
Undertake optioneering and feasibility assessments of pavement design solutions as part of value management workshops, considering whole life cost, safety, performance, sustainability and buildability, under the direction of senior engineers and principal engineers
Prepare designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables to budget and programme, under the guidance of the senior engineer
Assist in the delivery of pavement investigations, including preparation of investigation scopes, reviewing and interpreting data, and developing appropriate design solutions based on findings
Review of Traffic Management Plans, Diversion Routes and organise Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders with Highways England and Local Councils
Participate in design reviews, technical assurance and gateway processes, providing engineering input to support timely approvals and high quality outcomes
Deliver schemes in accordance with CPS Quality Management Processes and CPS internal standards
Report to the Senior engineer and Principal Engineer and provide regular updates on the progress risk and technical issues
Requirements
Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related highways discipline
Working towards, or holding, professional registration with a recognised engineering institution (e.g. ICE, IHE) at Incorporated or Chartered level
Working towards or holding, Pavement Engineer Certificate from the Institute of Asphalt Technology
Working knowledge of relevant UK highway design standards, specification and guidance
Knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation
Experience in delivering schemes, including design, maintenance or renewal of highway pavements on trunk roads, motorways or similar infrastructure assets
Experience in producing technical reports, specifications and design documentation
Experience in contributions to design reviews, technical assurance and quality management processes
Working knowledge of the use of relevant computer design applications (AutoCAD)
Sound knowledge of pavement materials and their applications
Ability to support the coordination of design activities to achieve agreed programme, budget and quality requirements
Ability to work collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders, provide technical input and communicate engineering information clearly
Broad understanding of environmental requirements of highway schemes
Hold a full UK driving licence (or ability to obtain one through a reciprocal agreement), to support site visits as required
Hold, or be able to obtain, appropriate CSCS card registration
