Job Responsibility:

  • Specifically responsible for transporting patients as assigned
  • Responsible for verifying patient identity using two patient identifiers
  • Provide and adjust transport equipment for safety and comfort of the patient i.e., appropriate line, side rails
  • Required to disinfect/wipe down equipment with approved cleaning product between patient transports
  • Assist patients onto transport equipment, request patient care assistance if additional help needed
  • Show ownership over transport equipment including routine cleaning, linen dressing, and reporting maintenance needs
  • Notify nursing or ancillary personnel upon arrival or departure of patients
  • Attend to care of documents relating to the patient e.g., ticket to ride
  • Report immediately any unusual symptoms of patients i.e., fainting, shortness of breath during transport
  • Provide, move, and care for transport equipment for patient movement
  • Utilize appropriate infection control precautions including hand hygiene, proper PPE, and isolation precautions
  • Safely transport patient oxygen after clinician setup
  • Provide feedback to management regarding equipment conditions and availability
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS certification through American Heart Association or within 90 days of employment
  • Ability to verify patient identity using two identifiers
  • Knowledge of infection control precautions
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain transport equipment
  • Good communication skills
  • Availability to work scheduled shifts including rotating weekends
  • Ability to report patient conditions accurately
  • Commitment to adhere to organizational ethics and compliance policies
  • At least 1 year experience with patient transport handling preferred
