Responsible for providing safe, timely patient transportation and additional non-patient pick-up and delivery service in assigned areas. Cross-train and function as the departmental dispatcher as requested. Act as a role model to promote a positive work environment so that quality patient service and constructive staff attitudes are facilitated. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Job Responsibility:
Transport patients to and from requesting areas
Ensure timely completion of tasks according to departmental policies and procedures
Obtain essential information from Nurse regarding patient condition
Communicate with patients to inform of reason for transport
Communicate with staff to assure that patient is ready for transport
Maintain unit sign-in/sign-out sheets
Comply with work environment routines according to hospital, nursing division and departmental policies and procedures
Safely and appropriately maintain and utilize equipment
Use telephone and pager system
Act as role model and precept the training, education and orientation of new staff as assigned
Cooperate in resolving conflict with those involved in a constructive manner
Maintain and enhance positive patient and staff interactions
Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
Requirements:
High School or GED Equivalent
CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people
Nice to have:
Bilingual English/American Sign Language
1/2 year (6 months) directly related experience
Nurse aide or patient transporter experience
