Job Description

Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the behavioral health patient safety attendant will provide care to a patient by sitting with and diligently watching the patient while meeting the established criteria in accordance with established methods and procedures of the Medical Center.

Job Responsibility

  • Consistently and independently maintains a safe, clean environment for patients
  • Reports maintenance needs
  • Utilizes universal precautions
  • Consistently adheres to established BBMC Close Observation Patient and Suicidal Patient Protocols
  • Continuously observes patients' behavior, mental status and activities, notifies RN of any changes or unusual occurrences
  • Consistently and independently documents patient observation data on the Close Observation Supervision Record
  • Gives accurate report to oncoming shift
  • Aware of changes in patient care plan
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions
  • Demonstrates behaviors in line with our organizational values
  • Maintains visual observation at all times, dedicates attention to observing patients with no outside distractions
  • Verbally redirects patients
  • Immediately summons nursing staff for required patient assistance, reporting any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Escorts patients when leaving the unit for activities and scheduled tests
  • Demonstrates the ability to set limits for patients and other de-escalation techniques

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required or must obtain GED within 6 months of hire date
  • Must read the BBMC Close Observation and Suicidal Patient Protocols and successfully complete the accompanying test
  • CPI certified
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Clear Communication Skills Both Written And Verbal
