Job Description:

The Patient Financial Counselor serves as a key liaison between patients, providers, and internal clinical teams to coordinate surgical scheduling while ensuring financial clearance and a seamless patient experience. This role focuses on patient education, insurance verification, and procedural coordination to support timely and compliant surgical care.

Job Responsibility:

  • Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures in collaboration with physicians, clinical staff, and hospital departments
  • Verify insurance eligibility, obtain prior authorizations, and ensure financial clearance prior to scheduled procedures
  • Counsel patients on financial responsibility, coverage details, and payment options related to surgical services
  • Communicate pre-operative instructions, timelines, and procedural requirements to patients
  • Maintain accurate scheduling and financial documentation within EMR and practice management systems
  • Serve as a point of contact for patients regarding scheduling, insurance, and billing-related questions
  • Monitor surgical calendars and proactively manage changes, cancellations, and urgent scheduling needs
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, payer requirements, and regulatory standards

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in surgery scheduling, patient access, or healthcare financial counseling
  • Strong knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorizations, and medical terminology
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency with EMR and scheduling systems
  • Bilingual English and Spanish is a must
