Job Description

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the PCT I performs delegated patient care activities in a manner that is aligned with the age specific needs of the patient to ensure safe, accurate, and high-quality care. PCT I is an entry level position whose job functions include but are not limited to: providing for a patient's activities of daily living (ADLs); limited screening, collection, and recording of data and information; maintenance of unit supplies and equipment; patient transporting; answering call-lights, telephone, Vocera.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing, oral care, grooming (shaving), urinary catheter and ostomy care
  • assists with meals and feeding
  • assists with positioning, ambulation, and mobilization
  • assists with elimination and toileting
  • Screening/Collection/Recording data & information: vital signs, intake & output, weights, specimen collection
  • Restocks patient room and unit supplies, performs equipment checks
  • Transports patients by wheelchair, cart, bed, bassinet
  • Answers patient call-lights, telephones, Vocera
  • Communicates and reports patient data and information to the RN

Requirements

  • Preferred High School Diploma/GED
  • Nursing student after having completed 1st semester of clinicals Required
  • Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Required
  • 6 months as CNA/PCT Required
  • Prior PCT experience in another acute care health care organization Required
  • After completion of Franciscan PCT In-training program Required
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) - American Heart Association Franciscan will provide BCLS training and recertification as needed
  • Must have 6 months of experience for Float Pool

  • Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients
  • Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D’s and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation
  • Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA)
  • Ensures equipment is in working order
