Job Responsibility:

  • Under the direction of a licensed nurse, provides patient care by performing basic procedures and selected specialized procedures that contribute to the well being, comfort and safety of patients
  • Participates in the delivery of patient care by performing basic and specialized physical and psychosocial interventions as defined by the Patient Care Technician Skill Inventory
  • Collects and records specimens and body fluids
  • Under direct supervision of a nurse, performs direct patient care affecting well being, comfort and safety of patients
  • Performs technical procedures and reports findings to nursing staff
  • Performs venipuncture for blood samples
  • Performs EKGs
  • Places electrodes and obtains telemetry readings
  • Collects patient data as defined by the Skill Inventory List and documents data on appropriate flow sheets
  • Collects specimens, performs basic tests or sends specimens to appropriate laboratory for analysis per Hospital policies
  • Attends to patients' environmental needs by straightening belongings, offering comfort measures at direction of nurse
  • Participates in Quality Assurance activities as directed by nurse
  • Orients patient/family to unit and patient room, and provides copies of Patients' Bill of Rights, as directed by nurse
  • Performs other duties as assigned by nurse to support unit functioning and patient care delivery

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • two years of experience in health care delivery in positions such as: Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, EMT, Medic/Corps Person
  • or two clinical semesters completed as a Nursing Student
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience
