Job Description:

We are looking for a dedicated Patient Access Specialist to join our team in Bangor, Maine. In this long-term contract role, you will play a key part in ensuring smooth admission processes and exceptional customer service for patients receiving hospital services. Your work will directly contribute to the organization’s goals and compliance standards while maintaining high-quality interactions with patients and their families.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide clear patient instructions, collect insurance details, and process physician notes while maintaining excellent customer service
  • Meet point-of-service goals, including pre-registration of patient accounts and managing inbound and outbound calls to gather demographic and insurance information
  • Collect payments for services, past due balances, and set up payment plans as needed during patient interactions
  • Explain consent forms, treatment-related documents, and patient education materials to patients or their legal guardians, obtaining necessary signatures
  • Verify insurance eligibility, select applicable insurance codes, and enter benefit data to support billing and clean claim rates
  • Screen medical necessity using specialized software to inform Medicare patients about potential non-payment and distribute required documentation
  • Utilize auditing and reporting systems to review accounts, correct errors, and ensure compliance with audit standards
  • Conduct account audits across departments and facilities, providing statistical data to support leadership decisions

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in customer service, preferably in a healthcare or administrative setting
  • Strong administrative skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in data entry and familiarity with insurance verification processes
  • Ability to handle collections and payment plans with professionalism and empathy
  • Effective communication skills to explain complex forms and processes to patients and guardians
  • Knowledge of medical necessity screening tools and compliance requirements
  • Experience using quality auditing systems to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards
