Job Responsibility:

  • Interpret surgical and cytological specimens with a focus on Gynecologic, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Neuropathology, Dermatopathology, and Hematopathology
  • Perform bone marrow aspirates and biopsies, including interpretation
  • Conduct non-forensic and forensic autopsies
  • Engage in cytology performance, including FNAs
  • Manage blood bank, microbiology, chemistry, and serology tasks

Requirements:

  • Board Certified in Pathology
  • Expertise in Surgical and Gynecologic Pathology preferred
  • Specialized skills in various pathology sub-disciplines
  • Strong diagnostic and analytical skills
  • Proficient in anatomic and clinical pathology
  • Excellent interdisciplinary collaboration and communication skills

  • Perform routine sign-out, providing high quality diagnosis of surgical pathology and cytology specimens by using a variety of microscope techniques, including light microscopy, special stains, immunohistochemical stains or other techniques
  • Consults with referring physicians about ordering and interpreting tests or providing treatments
  • Provides diagnostic information to the treating/referring physician in the form of a written pathology report
  • Maintains compliance with departmental key performic indicators such as turnaround time and peer review metrics
  • Perform frozen sections on a rotating basis
  • Perform rapid on-site assessment (ROSE) of in-office fine needle aspirations as needed
  • Participates in interdisciplinary treatment conferences
  • Is available and on site during normal working hours to assist peers, administration, and staff with lab or pathology related questions
  • Participates in proficiency testing programs and intradepartmental meetings to establish measures to ensure and improve accuracy of diagnoses and quality of care
  • Participates in professional organizations, continuing medical educational conferences, and seminars to keep abreast of developments in pathology
