Under the general supervision of the Manager and Pathologist, the Pathologist's Assistant performs gross examining, describing, dissecting and sampling of Surgical Gross Specimens along with other supportive functions in the area. All primary functions are performed under the direction of a pathologist. Additionally you will be expected to engage in role related teaching, professional development and research activities

Requirements:
Bachelor of Science (Health Sciences / Biology related), allied health sciences or related degree, required
Successful completion of a Masters level Pathologists' Assistant degree program or a minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Pathologists' Assistant, performing gross dissection of small/simple and large/complex surgical specimens
Certification with the Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP) – Section of Pathologists' Assistant (CCCPA) or American Society for Clinical Pathology – Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) an asset
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail are essential
Ability to work in a team environment with strong interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
Strong collaboration skills and able to develop and maintain effective relationships within healthcare teams
Strong problem solving skills with flexibility and ability to manage change in a dynamic environment
Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care and patient and staff safety at HHSC
Nice to have:
Certification with the Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP) – Section of Pathologists' Assistant (CCCPA) or American Society for Clinical Pathology – Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) an asset
Proficiency in both Official Languages, French and English, is considered an asset
