We are looking for a skilled Patent Prosecution Paralegal to join a detail-oriented services firm on a long-term, contract basis. This would be a mostly remote role. In this role, you will play a critical part in managing both U.S. and international patent prosecution processes, ensuring deadlines are met, and supporting attorneys with various intellectual property tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in patent prosecution who thrives in a dynamic, detail-oriented setting.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and maintain U.S. and international patent prosecution dockets, ensuring that all deadlines are tracked and met
Draft original correspondence and various patent prosecution documents, including those related to applications, formalities, examinations, appeals, and post-allowance actions, for attorney review
Collaborate with attorneys to prepare and send correspondence to clients regarding patent prosecution matters
Communicate directly with clients to address routine or procedural inquiries under attorney guidance
Oversee the accuracy and organization of patent portfolios, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to deadlines
Utilize IP docket management systems to create, monitor, and maintain information disclosure statement databases
Access online patent systems to retrieve application status updates and download necessary documentation
Ensure compliance with client-specific requirements in patent prosecution tasks
Support the effective use of document management systems, such as NetDocs, and other tools like SmartSheets and OneNote
Assist with the transition and management of relevant intellectual property software, such as Foundation IP or similar platforms
Requirements:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably within a law firm setting
Proficiency in using docket management systems and document management tools like NetDocs
Strong familiarity with intellectual property software such as Foundation IP, Pattsy, or Anaqua
Experience with organizational tools like SmartSheets and OneNote
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and precise correspondence and documents
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple deadlines
Knowledge of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office procedures and international patent systems
Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and clients in a fast-paced environment
