Job Description:

Responsible for the planning, coordination and facilitation of the religious and sacramental services for the Sisters residing in Auburn Facility. Provides or facilitates spiritual care and support for Sisters living in other facilities in the area. Works with individuals and groups of Sisters to support their spiritual and emotional needs. Also, a member of the staff team who assists the Sisters in their daily life routine

Requirements:

  • Certification in NACC or ACPE or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of one-year experience in chaplaincy or related field
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with a broad range of employees and external contacts
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be organized and have ability to work independently and with a team
  • Capable of displaying strong self-motivation and sound decision-making abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must possess a valid State Driver’s License without any moving violations

Nice to have:

  • Willingness to understand and appreciate the traditions, the rituals and culture associated with the Sisters of Mercy, the Catholic Church and Vatican II teaching
  • Experience in chaplaincy or formation in mission/charism of the Sisters of Mercy preferred
  • Prior experience in a healthcare or religious organization preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in spiritual care, Arts or equivalent degree from college/university or institution accredited by the applicant's institutional faith body. Completion of Roman Catholic deacon training and ordination is also acceptable if applicant does not have a bachelor's degree

  • Clinical Pastoral Education units: Affiliation with an institutional faith body. For Advent Health hospitals, prefer member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. At hire, applicant must have at least one unit of CPE or enroll in our internal Clinical Pastoral Orientation and complete 1 unit of CPE within one year. If the chaplain has less than 4 units of CPE, they must agree to complete additional units in a CPE program (one unit at least every six months until fulfilling the requirement of 4 units) from a nationally recognized accrediting agency listed by the U.S. Department of Education. Fifty hours of continuing education in chaplaincy related topics are required on an annual basis, except when enrolled in CPE or preparing for certification
  • Current Board Certified Chaplain documentation: Chaplains who have completed 4 units of CPE are expected to become board certified within 12 months. Exceptions must be approved by their manager. Board certification organizations include: National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc, Association of Professional Chaplains, Spiritual Care association (4 units), The Association of Certified Christian Chaplains, or equivalent.
