Job Description

This role is designed for a senior practitioner ready for a true leadership seat. You may already be a Partner or Principal in a specialist or mid-sized firm. Or you may be a Special Counsel / Senior Associate operating at partner level and looking for the scope to step up. You’ll oversee legal work across estate planning and deceased estates, support and mentor lawyers and legal support staff, and help build a practice known for both legal excellence and client care.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and grow a modern Wills & Estates practice across estate planning, probate and estate administration
  • Set the bar for legal quality, judgment, supervision and client service
  • Oversee complex and sensitive matters with strong technical rigour and sound risk management
  • Mentor and develop lawyers and legal support staff, lifting capability across the practice
  • Shape practice strategy, service design and operational improvement as the team grows
  • Advise Safewill on the wills and estates products and services it builds, ensuring legal judgment is embedded in design, delivery and ongoing improvement

Requirements

  • Current Australian practising certificate, with demonstrated readiness to step into a principal-level role and obtain principal authorisation in NSW if not already held
  • Significant experience in Wills & Estates, including estate planning, probate, letters of administration and estate administration
  • Strong technical capability across complex wills and estates matters
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise legal work and support the development of more junior lawyers
  • Sound understanding of legal risk, professional obligations and quality management in legal practice
  • Strong client judgment, with the ability to manage sensitive matters with empathy and clarity
  • Commercial maturity and an appetite to help grow and shape a practice

Nice to have

  • Existing experience as a Partner, Principal, Special Counsel or equivalent senior practitioner
  • Experience leading or helping build a specialist private client / estates practice
  • Exposure to modern, scaled or operationally sophisticated legal service models
  • Interest in improving legal delivery through systems, process, technology or service design
