Job Description

The Pfizer Ventures Partner is a senior role within Pfizer’s Worldwide Business Development/Business Innovation organization. This role will be expected to identify new investments, lead diligence, lead and negotiate term-sheets and definitive deal documents, build investment syndicates and execute/manage venture capital investments. This leader will actively manage investments in early-stage private biotechnology companies as a member of portfolio company boards of directors. New investments will be aligned with Pfizer’s scientific and business strategies, with the goal of providing strategic and financial benefit to Pfizer. Sourcing, executing and managing new investments is the key component of this role, as is the pursuit of strategic transactions between our portfolio companies and Pfizer.

Job Responsibility

  • Member of the Pfizer Venture global team reporting to the Senior Managing Partner
  • Lead for new investment activity in China and responsible for executing alongside similar activities in the United States
  • Identify investment opportunities in private companies with breakthrough science/technology and strong leadership teams relevant to R&D strategy
  • Lead and execute transactions through diligence, financial analysis, negotiation, and legal documentation in conjunction with internal and external attorneys
  • Collaborate with Pfizer senior executives and R&D leadership to ensure new investment activities align with Pfizer’s strategic priorities
  • Work with company CEOs/management via board participation to build successful companies and biopharmaceutical products with ROI for Pfizer
  • Manage governance processes ensuring compliance with corporate and Pfizer Ventures procedures
  • Manage and track investments over time, providing data for financial reporting and presentations
  • Cultivate diverse relationships external to Pfizer within the global Biotech ecosystem
  • Knowledgably represent Pfizer in discussions with external audiences and routinely present and represent Pfizer Ventures at external meeting/conferences and forums

Requirements

  • Advanced science/business degree preferred – PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with 10- 15+ years’ experience
  • Experience working on company boards, effectively communicating, advising, presenting to, and influencing C-Suite level leaders
  • Significant understanding of the biopharmaceutical model with at least fifteen years of relevant investing, biopharmaceutical drug discovery and development work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate with scientific and business leaders inside and outside the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as operate within team of peers across corporate functions
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft based business and AI software systems
  • Ability to travel globally 25-50%
  • Non-traditional work hours required on an as needed basis –early mornings, nights, weekends and during vacation time
  • This position requires permanent work authorization in the United States

Nice to have

  • MBA preferred
  • Significant experience and track record in venture capital investing, equity research, business development, and/or equity capital markets or external facing R&D role is preferred
  • Extensive experience in a scientific research field of interest to Pfizer R&D: AI, Immunology and Inflammation, Oncology, Internal Medicine, Vaccines, or enabling technologies such as Protein Engineering, Drug Safety, Pharmacokinetics, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead financing rounds and build strong syndicates
  • Experience working on private company boards and leading board committees
