Job Description:

We are pleased to be supporting a well-established and highly regarded Charitable organisation in West Berkshire, in the appointment of an in-house Accountant with solid experience in VAT and month end accounting to join their busy finance team. Reporting to the Head of Finance and working closely with the Director of Finance and Operations, this role supports the smooth and successful management of the organisation's finances and will act as cover for the Head of Finance during periods of absence. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional accountant with strong VAT knowledge who is seeking a role within a warm, values-driven team environment with a 5pm finish each day.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supporting the effective financial management of core accounting functions
  • Providing expert VAT advice and ensuring compliance with UK VAT legislation and HMRC requirements
  • Preparing and reviewing management accounts, budgets and statutory accounts
  • Overseeing purchase and sales ledger activity and ensuring robust financial controls
  • Managing VAT accounting and supporting wider tax and treasury responsibilities
  • Assisting with payroll administration and ensuring compliance with charity legislation
  • Acting as cover for the Head of Finance when required
  • Working collaboratively with employees across the organisation, providing clear and professional financial support

Requirements:

  • Experienced and professional Accountant, part-qualified minimum or qualified by experience
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience of VAT and VAT accounting
  • Broad accounting experience, including budgeting, management and statutory accounts
  • Understanding of financial regulation
  • experience within charity, education or public sector is advantageous
  • Willingness to be involved in payroll administration and charity legislation
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work independently as a self-starter
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work effectively across teams and senior stakeholders
