Responsible for the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.
Job Responsibility:
Participates in the routine maintenance and repair of athletic fields and equipment and town owned land
lines fields for different sports
removes and disposes of rubbish
installs sports equipment
prepares fields for games
picks up leaves, and mows lawn
Oversee evenings and weekend ice rink operations
operates Zamboni machine
Collects fees, sharpens skates, prepares rink for skating and hockey games, repairs equipment, informs patrons when their ice time is up, assigns keys for locker rooms, performs routine maintenance and responds to inquiries, requests, and complaints
Assists in operation of the skate shop, sells and stocks supplies
Assists in the operation, maintenance, and repairs of town pools, prepares pools for the season, adds required chemicals to adjust water quality and prepare for swimming, and posts required safety signs and markings
Provides for the routine maintenance and repair of recreation buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment
Performs routine cleaning and custodial tasks
Sweeps and mops floors, picks up litter at all recreational fields, performs ice and snow removal at all recreation buildings
Fixes fences, moves picnic tables, and sets up and removes bleachers
Performs minor carpentry tasks, painting duties, and small engineer repair
Removes trash
Operates various mechanical equipment, such as lawn mowers and other light equipment
May oversee the work of part-time, seasonal and/or temporary employees
As requested, participates in snow and ice removal operations and other emergencies declared by the Public Works department
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent or an apprentice level in the trades and one to three years of experience in landscaping and repair and maintenance of facilities such as swimming pools, ice rinks, and buildings, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in, carpentry, small engine repair, and/or other trade skills preferred
Driver’s license is required
Hoisting license 2A, pesticide applicator’s license, and pool operator certification preferred
Knowledge of the operations and maintenance of recreation facilities
Knowledge of safety procedures
Ability to work with power and hand tools
Ability to work independently
Ability to apply best practices and work in a safe manner
Communication, interpersonal, and math skill
Mechanical skill and skill in operating specialized equipment such as trader/backhoe, snow plow, and zero turn mower
Nice to have:
Experience in, carpentry, small engine repair, and/or other trade skills preferred
Hoisting license 2A, pesticide applicator’s license, and pool operator certification preferred
