6-month fixed-term contract. An exciting opportunity has arisen. The Swindon & North Wiltshire Parkinson's Nursing Service is looking for a Band 6 Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist to work as part of the team providing nursing care, support and advice to people affected by Parkinson's. This is a varied role working in both the community and hospital environments undertaking home visits, seeing patients and their families within the clinic environment and working as part of the PDNS team supporting the patient during any hospital stays. You will be a nurse with an interest in gaining further clinical knowledge of Parkinson's disease. We will support you in your learning within our excellent multi-disciplinary team. You will have excellent communication and written skills that will enable you to provide information to support, promote and encourage patient empowerment and support decision making relating to care and support needs.
Job Responsibility
Provide specialist nursing care, support and advice to patients affected by Parkinson's Disease within the Swindon and North Wiltshire area
Provide effective support and advice to patients and carers in order to assist them with emotional issues
Demonstrate effective educational strategies in order to assist patients and carers in relating to the management of the disease process and its symptoms
Provide verbal and written information in order to support, promote and encourage patient empowerment and support decision making relating to care and support needs
Act as an advocate for the individual with Parkinson's Disease
Triage helpline phone calls in order to assess and prioritise the needs of the individual making the call
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and other meetings as requested
Professionally and sensitively deal with issues pertaining to service users and their carers
Organise their time effectively and manage their allocated work in an organised manner
Work flexibly to meet service demands
Requirements
RGN with reasonable length of post qualification experience
Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by training and/or combination of additional post registration/postgraduate specialist training, or equivalent experience
Related nursing experience to the Parkinson's knowledge base
An awareness of interagency working / functions
Communication skills, which facilitate effective interaction with people from a wide range of social, economic, cultural, and ethnic/racial backgrounds
Able to communicate with a wide range of colleagues in different disciplines and agencies
The ability to respond to the demands of working in a complex and diverse environment
Able to work well in a team as well as the ability to work independently
Approachable & flexible
Able to produce accurate reports
Nice to have
Parkinson's Disease Module or willingness to undertake this
Experience in the care of older people, palliative / end of life areas
