The Parent Support Worker assist parents in meeting their day-to-day needs by providing support, problem-solving, life skills training and opportunities to develop new parenting skills.
Job Responsibility:
Providing intake services for students in attending New Beginnings
Working with clients to assess needs and goals and identify high risk individuals so they can access appropriate resources
Providing case conferencing on an ongoing basis with any and all of the following: teachers, childcare staff, school administrators, social workers, public health nurses, addiction counsellors and mental health workers
Facilitating parenting groups including Mental Wellness Parenting, Healthy Relationships etc.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, or a diploma in a related field
Valid class 5 BC Driver’s License and a clean Driver’s Abstract
Must have a current First Aid Certificate
At least 2 years experience working with vulnerable youth/families
At least 2 years’ experience in direct program delivery in the community social service sector
Strong planning, organizing and time management skills able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
Well-developed verbal, written, and active listening skills, able to communicate respectively and effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of parenting young children
Strong knowledge of government and community-based resources available to client group
Familiarity with the workings of the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation, and the BC Justice system
Well developed relationship building and networking skills: able to build rapport with clients, referral sources and stakeholders
Strong computer competency, able to use Microsoft Office365, and various virtual meeting platforms including Microsoft teams
A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
