The Parent Educator plays a vital role in advancing United Way of El Paso County’s mission, vision, and Education Community Impact goals by delivering effective family home visitation programs. This position is responsible for implementing the Parents as Teachers evidence-based early childhood home visitation framework— supporting strong communities, thriving families, and children who are healthy, safe, and ready to learn.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct 30–40 home visits per month to families with young children
Use the PAT curriculum to promote child development, school readiness, and parenting support
Facilitate family group sessions and community-based events
Conduct developmental screenings and family assessments
Maintain accurate and timely records in Visit Tracker (PAT) database
Recruit new families through outreach and community presentations
Participate in ongoing professional development (minimum 20 hours/year)
Collaborate with community partners and other United Way programs
Enter and maintain up-to-date client data in electronic system: Visit Tracker (PAT)
Keep accurate and complete family case files in compliance with program and grant requirements
Submit daily timesheets, weekly/monthly staff reports, and mileage/expense reports by established deadlines
Participate in monthly supervision sessions (both reflective and administrative)
Recruit new families to maintain a full caseload through community outreach and presentations
Solicit donations and secure incentives to support and engage participating families
Complete a minimum of 20 hours of professional development annually to maintain certification through the Parents as Teachers national office
Attend all required trainings
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in early childhood education, parent education, social work, and/or in health or human services
Fluency in both English and Spanish
Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and daily access to a reliable vehicle
Ability to pass a background check
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends
