Job Description:

Provides advanced life support to patients according to established standards and guidelines. This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent. It is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities required of the incumbent. Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provides advanced life support to patients according to established standards and guidelines
  • Accurate and legible documentation that adherence to EMS protocols
  • Serves as a role model and resource person to other EMS personnel
  • Provides fellow staff members with help as necessary
  • Performs safe and courteous driving
  • Provides accurate and legible patient charge information
  • Performs patient assessment and correct airway management
  • Documents patient care according to professional (Department) standards
  • Documents non-transports accurately and properly
  • Follow treatment protocols for patient care

Requirements:

  • Must hold a current Georgia Paramedic License
  • Must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Must be certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Must maintain certification at all times with no lapse
  • Must maintain a valid Georgia Drivers License
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets the requirements set forth by the Hospital Driving Policy
  • Must be aware and follow current Federal and Georgia laws with regards to emergency medical services
  • Must meet Hospital requirements for criminal background check
  • Minimum education of a High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a Paramedic
  • Must be able to utilize initiative and independent action when required
  • Must be able to utilize good judgment in evaluating alternatives in unorthodox situations
  • Must have good verbal communication skills
  • Must have the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with physicians, patients and family members
  • Must be able to work with accuracy under stress and emergency situations
  • Discretion required in handling confidential information
  • Must be able to consistently follow prescribed treatment protocol for patient conditions
  • Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity
  • Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport of supplies and/or equipment using good body mechanics
  • Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength based upon the specific job evaluation levels
  • Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly
  • Must be able to lift 50-80# and carry 50-80#
  • Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors
  • Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously
