Legal Services of North Florida has an opening for a Paralegal (full-time 35 hours a week)! LSNF handles more than 8,900 cases a year and does not charge their clients for their legal services. Be a part of a non-profit law firm, with 140+ employees in eight offices across North Florida, that seeks legal justice while understanding the value of work-life balance. This position is located in our Tallahassee office.
Job Responsibility:
Support our Veteran's Legal Services Project
Help veteran clients navigate complex legal issues that may include public benefits, family law, housing, property rights, and other civil law matters
Work collaboratively with superior legal professionals in civil litigation and administrative law to strategize and advocate on behalf of clients
Have a great deal of client communications and interactions
Engage in significant litigation including large-scale impact work and appellate work
Carry out community education and outreach with two Justice on the Block mobile response units
Requirements:
Completion of a legal assistant or paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association
Have a two-year or four-year degree
Year-for-year work experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary may be substituted for education requirement
A Florida Registered Paralegal with the Florida Bar Association
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strong experience in e-filing, conducting client interviews, and preparing documents and materials for hearings
Proficiency in drafting letters, legal motions, and orders in accordance with jurisdictional requirements
Effective communication skills
Ability to maintain accurate, confidential client records
Nice to have:
Experience with outreach, community education, and/or public presentations
Knowledge of VA benefits and the claims process
