A plaintiff-side law firm in Des Plaines is seeking a Paralegal / Legal Assistant to support attorneys in a busy Personal Injury and Workers’ Compensation practice. This role requires strong litigation experience, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and strong client service. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting civil litigation matters and assisting with case management from intake through resolution.
Job Responsibility:
Provide administrative and litigation support to attorneys handling personal injury and workers’ compensation matters
Manage case files from intake through settlement or trial
Communicate with clients regarding case updates and assist with client intake as needed
Prepare, review, and format legal correspondence, pleadings, and litigation-related documents
Assist with drafting discovery requests and responses under attorney direction
Electronically file documents with Illinois courts and maintain awareness of filing requirements and deadlines
Track key litigation deadlines, statutes of limitations, and court dates
Request, review, and organize medical records, billing statements, and related case documentation
Coordinate with medical providers, insurance adjusters, and opposing counsel regarding case materials and updates
Prepare materials for depositions, mediations, hearings, and trial preparation
Maintain organized electronic and physical case files
Assist attorneys with general litigation tasks and case management responsibilities
Requirements:
Two or more years of litigation legal assistant or paralegal experience in a law firm environment preferred
Experience supporting personal injury or workers’ compensation matters strongly preferred
Familiarity with Illinois court procedures and e-filing systems required
Education or coursework related to the legal field preferred
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
Knowledge of civil litigation procedures and legal terminology
Experience preparing discovery and supporting litigation matters
Strong understanding of Illinois court e-filing procedures
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
Clear, concise, and professional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, small firm environment
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and firm information
