We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Birmingham, working as a Painting and Decorating Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week. Who are Novus? Site Information HMP Birmingham is situated in Winson Green, close to the centre of the city; and is a category B prison for remand and sentenced adult males. The teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.
Job Responsibility
Mentor learners and help them to secure future employment opportunities post-release
Need patience, passion, flexibility and understanding in your approach to learners who have 'hit a bump in the road' but want to learn and improve
Requirements
Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
The successful candidate must have either a Level 2 qualification in Painting & Decorating and/or vocational expertise in this area
Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets
Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports
Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter
Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets
Advocate for and engage consistently in positive team working
