The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire a Painter for the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired and Illinois School for the Deaf located in Jacksonville, Illinois to perform tasks of painting, decorating, and refinishing of building interiors and exteriors and other structures, equipment and furnishings.
Job Responsibility:
Perform tasks of painting, decorating, and refinishing of building interiors and exteriors and other structures, equipment and furnishings
Prepare interior or exterior walls, metal surfaces, floors, ceiling, and equipment for painting
Remove fixtures/objects from walls, remove excess paint, wash walls, repair cracks, patches and holes along with preparing and applying patching plaster and sanding surfaces
Move heavy furniture, office equipment and other objects
Lift and erect ladders or scaffolding
Clean and maintain equipment and ensure the proper use, repair and storage of materials, tools and equipment
Travel in the performance of duties
Utilize a computer to check email, complete documents, reports and submits to supervisor including daily attendance form and requests for overtime, time off, travel, and expense reimbursement
Requirements:
Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school
Successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program and two years of full-time journey level painter experience OR six years of full-time journey level painter experience
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment, materials, structures and furniture up to 50 pounds independently, and up to 75-100 pounds with assistance
Ability to work from various heights on ladders, scaffolds, and platforms
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to work overhead and on knees
Ability to operate power lifts and overhead platforms
Ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers
Valid, appropriate driver’s license and the ability to travel
Must meet Illinois School for the Visually Impaired health and safety requirements
Ability to pass the IDHS background check
Ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law
