Painter

• Perform tasks of painting, decorating, and refinishing of building interiors and exteriors and other structures, equipment and furnishings
• Prepare interior or exterior walls, metal surfaces, floors, ceiling, and equipment for painting
• Remove fixtures/objects from walls, remove excess paint, wash walls, repair cracks, patches and holes along with preparing and applying patching plaster and sanding surfaces
• Move heavy furniture, office equipment and other objects
• Lift and erect ladders or scaffolding
• Clean and maintain equipment and ensure the proper use, repair and storage of materials, tools and equipment
• Travel in the performance of duties
• Utilize a computer to check email, complete documents, reports and submits to supervisor including daily attendance form and requests for overtime, time off, travel, and expense reimbursement

• Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school
• Successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program and two years of full-time journey level painter experience OR six years of full-time journey level painter experience
• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment, materials, structures and furniture up to 50 pounds independently, and up to 75-100 pounds with assistance
• Ability to work from various heights on ladders, scaffolds, and platforms
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work overhead and on knees
• Ability to operate power lifts and overhead platforms
• Ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers
• Valid, appropriate driver’s license and the ability to travel
• Must meet Illinois School for the Visually Impaired health and safety requirements
• Ability to pass the IDHS background check
• Ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law
