Job Description:

Paediatric Bladder and Bowel Nurse (Band 5 development role or Band 6 with relevant experience) The Paediatric Bladder and Bowel Team are recruiting to a part time nurse role 24 hours per week. The team are a flexible team based at Sherwood Rise Health Centre and undertake clinics both in the community and work remotely from home. The role is ideal for someone looking to develop from a Band 5 into a Band 6 specialist nurse role or a nurse with existing Paediatric Bladder and Bowel service experience to work at band 6. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and conscientious nurse with an interest in paediatric continence to join the paediatric team within the Bladder and Bowel Service. We are a dynamic, developing service and enthusiastic team providing education, advice, support, and clinical care. There are opportunities to develop in all areas of the service and you will be involved with, a clinical caseload, education, audit and development of practice and support and advice to other health care professionals. You will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You must be able to task manage and effectively plan your time. Ability to work flexibly within the team is advantageous. The hours of work will be between 8.30 5.00 excluding weekends and bank holidays. Please note a car driver with own vehicle is essential for the job role.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage a clinical caseload of children and young people with complex continence problems in all clinical, social care and educational settings, maintaining accurate clinical records and data required by the service
  • Set up and maintain continence clinics in a variety of settings
  • Assist with clinical management decisions required to ensure efficient, cost effective running of the Home Delivery Service
  • Liaise with Service managers on issues relating to continence promotion
  • Give clinical advice to nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary team caring for children and young people with continence problems
  • Promote and demonstrate best practice, integrating evidence based practice, using an advanced level of clinical reasoning and clinical judgements
  • Ensure family centred care is practised, incorporating appropriate ethical and moral dimensions
  • Promote involvement of user groups and voluntary agencies in the development of services for children and young people with continence problems
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate educational programmes and training
  • Prepare and present written reports as required
  • Keep accurate records and statistics
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of research based nursing practice, policies and guidelines on continence care
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Audit of the Continence Advisory Service and continence care in all clinical, social and educational care settings
  • Initiate and/ or make a contribution to appropriate research into continence care
  • Participate in professional meetings and forums

Requirements:

  • First level registration (child branch) or first level registration plus a recognised post basic qualification in childrens nursing
  • Willingness to undertake further higher-level study
  • Post graduate nursing experience working with children
  • Nursing experience of working with children and young people with continence problems
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Competence in individual caseload and time management
  • Computer skills
  • Evidence of achievement of appropriate competencies for clinical grade
  • Awareness of current local and national policy developments
  • Paediatric bladder and bowel assessment and treatment planning experience
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to pass on skills and knowledge to others
  • Ability to relate well to all groups of people and to create and maintain effective working relationships within the team and externally
