Job Description

As a Packaging Trainee you safely and efficiently operate packaging equipment. You will monitor and operate equipment, lead troubleshooting and make adjustments to provide optimal equipment performance. Operators ensure the lines are continuously supplied with materials and store, stack, and load finished goods safely. This position will be responsible for reviewing and actively participating in risk assessments.

Job Responsibility

  • Safely operate, monitor and problem solve throughout the packaging area
  • Supply packaging materials and maintain sanitation to high standards as issues are identified
  • Load and unload raw/packaging materials and finished goods
  • Maintain accurate inventory data through proper data entry
  • Perform Preventative Standard Routines to include performance of basic lubrication, repairs, inspection, and identify defects to complete or coordinate repairs
  • Ensure that products meet all quality standards by monitoring production parameters, sampling/testing and responding accordingly
  • Keeps area clean at all times - Identifies and utilizes down time to clean in, around and under all equipment

  • Under the direction of the team leader, the packaging operator is responsible to operate, maintain, monitor and adjust the packaging equipment from freezer exit through cased goods in a manner consistent with production needs and quality standards
  • Maintains safe work practices at all times and participates in safety programs
  • Production metrics & equipment responsible to monitor, operate, maintain, changeover, and adjust (not an exhaustive list) includes line-flow rates, packaging material (paper, poly, cartons), scales, baggers, case-packers, case erectors, case settler/sealer, glue machine, case coder, grader room, etc
  • Ensures proper container sizing
  • Records packaging machinery efficiencies, downtime and fills out reports accurately and correctly
  • Responsible for ensuring complete package quality of product taking regular checks of weights, seals, codes, glue patterns, etc. if needed
  • Complete CIL’s, Centerlines, and Defect Handling Standard Work
  • Troubleshoots equipment operation
  • Able to identify mechanical and electrical equipment problems and take action by notifying proper personnel
  • Operates equipment with minimum waste
