Job Description

Pebbles Academy Muirkirk is a specialist school dedicated to supporting young people who have faced challenges in traditional education settings. Our therapeutic approach, combined with a wide curriculum of subjects and qualifications, helps pupils develop confidence, practical skills, and a pathway to future success. We work closely with local authorities and care providers to provide tailored education and support. We are seeking a committed and adaptable Outreach Teacher / Educator to work with hard-to-reach young people who face barriers to engaging in traditional school settings. The postholder will deliver personalised learning programmes in a range of contexts, including community venues, homes, care settings and remote/online environments. This role is for 3 days per week or 21 hours split across the week and is ideal for a qualified teacher, tutor, or experienced educator who is passionate about inclusion, trauma-informed practice, and flexible approaches to learning.

Job Responsibility

  • Deliver high-quality, personalised learning to young people who are unable to access full-time, on-site education
  • Provide learning across a range of contexts, including outreach venues, care settings, community spaces, and remote/online platforms
  • Plan, adapt, and deliver engaging learning experiences aligned with individual needs, interests, and education plans
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced trauma, disrupted education, or disengagement from learning
  • Use trauma-informed and relational approaches to support engagement, regulation, and progress
  • Liaise effectively with school staff, care teams, families, and external professionals to support continuity of learning
  • Maintain accurate records of planning, attendance, engagement, and progress
  • Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and lone-working procedures are followed at all times
  • Contribute to reviews, reports, and planning meetings as required
  • Work collaboratively with the wider school team to contribute to each student’s personal and educational development
  • Engage with local businesses and organisations to explore potential work experience or progression opportunities for students
  • Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
  • Managing pupil behaviours in a trauma-informed manner and in line with the context of the school and the wider needs of the community and supporting colleagues in maintaining the supportive ethos of the school
  • Meet pastoral needs for allocated pupils as a Key Teacher and contribute to multi-agency progress meetings

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly those who are vulnerable, disengaged, or hard to reach
  • Experience of delivering learning in non-traditional or remote settings (e.g. online tuition, outreach education, alternative provision)
  • Ability to plan and deliver flexible, personalised learning programmes
  • Strong relationship-building skills and a calm, consistent approach
  • Willingness and ability to travel to a range of venues
  • Full Manual UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Right to work in the UK

Nice to have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience of working with care-experienced young people or those with social, emotional, or behavioural needs
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, attachment-aware approaches, or therapeutic education
  • Familiarity with curriculum frameworks and accreditation pathways
  • Experience working within alternative provision or specialist education settings
