Job Description:

Casual Outdoor Education Instructor for Conway Centre. The role involves delivering outdoor sessions to children visiting the centre. A session is 3.5 hours plus preparation and tidying time, and is either a morning, afternoon or evening. The job is on casual basis meeting the demands of the centre throughout the year. We work in sessions, a session is either a morning, afternoon or evening. A typical day involves a morning session and an afternoon session. Most schools come to stay in term time, though we have a range of groups who stay during school holidays. There may also be the requirement to do periodic evening duties.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver outdoor sessions to children visiting the centre
  • Maintain and help develop the delivery of high-quality Outdoor Education activities
  • Ensure the high quality and culture of the centre is maintained
  • Induct customers and ensure the aims of courses are met
  • Plan and lead staff training, monitoring and sign off's of instructors
  • Develop and take responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and facilities within an area of technical expertise
  • Prepare, plan, co-ordinate and evaluate outdoor residential courses
  • Induct guests and assist to maintain equipment and facilities
  • Work closely with the outdoor team and adhere to risk management processes

Requirements:

  • At least one season of experience working with children and young people in the outdoors
  • Competence demonstrated by gaining national governing body awards in the activity categories provided
  • For offsite adventures: minibus/trailer qualification (D1+E), up to date CPC and digital tachograph card
  • Passionate about and committed to teaching high quality Outdoor Education courses
  • Calm, considered and professional approach to working with a diverse clientele who may require additional support
  • Ability to share responsibility for preparation, planning, co-ordination and evaluation of outdoor residential courses
  • Ability to induct guests and assist to maintain equipment and facilities
  • Ability to work closely with the outdoor team and adhere to risk management processes
