CARIAN is seeking an Outage Planner / Sequencer to support project and field teams on transmission and distribution capital programs. This role works within the Project Controls organization to plan electric system outages, develop sequencing plans, prepare outage requests, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with construction schedules. The position also assists with schedule development for upcoming work to confirm outage feasibility prior to execution.
Job Responsibility:
Demonstrate a strong commitment to all aspects of safety
Use utility systems and tools including: Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA), Energy Management System (EMS), GIS applications, OPPM and Cascade
Develop construction and outage sequencing plans using information from engineering, field personnel, and system operations
Lead project teams through the coordination of outage sequences, switching requirements, and work windows
Schedule switching to enable work on substations, transmission lines, distribution lines, and associated facilities
Analyze outage requests, identify contingencies, and ensure compliance with PJM outage coordination requirements
Coordinate switching schedules with field crews, control centers, and project management to meet project deadlines
Validate switching procedures and ensure documentation meets Manual of Operations and utility standards
Prepare clear reports that communicate switching requirements, outage impacts, and sequence dependencies
Recommend operational improvements and support continuous enhancement of switching and outage planning processes
Maintain awareness of ongoing system conditions and bring a questioning attitude to all work activities
Promote and uphold safety expectations consistent with utility and CARIAN standards
Requirements:
Two-year technical degree from an accredited engineering or technical school
in lieu of degree, 2–4 years of relevant experience will be considered
0–2+ years of related experience in project coordination, outage planning, system operations, scheduling, or line/substation construction support
Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Effective verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated interpersonal capability
Proficiency with relevant software tools (EDOA, EMS, GIS, MS Office)
Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, time-sensitive operations environment
