Functions independently in the inpatient based setting with emphasis on the operative management of acutely ill or injured patients in collaboration with a supervising physician. Patients have the potential to become unstable and require a high level of diagnostic skill for the hospitalized patient. Performs advanced invasive procedures. Assists in complex surgical cases in the operating room. Example specialties include but are not limited to hepato-biliary diseases, surgical urology, surgical vascular, surgical orthopedics and surgical transplant services.
Job Responsibility:
Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments
Records findings of examinations, assessments and plan of care
Performs a wide range of surgical and/or medical procedures
Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications
Orders and interprets laboratory and radiology examinations
Determines treatment plan for patient
Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record
Acts as a patient advocate for the population served
Assesses own practice needs, as well as those of the other APPs of the health care team, and develops methods to meet those needs
Assists in the review and development of clinical and operational policies and procedures in the specialty of practice
Serves as a liaison to collaborating physicians, patients, nurses, staff and others as necessary
Coordinates annual performance reviews in collaboration with assigned supervising physicians
Attends, participates, contributes to and represents APPs in the assigned areas of responsibility on group/practice, facility or system-wide committees and/or meetings
Coordinates staffing, selection and orientation of assigned team members
Plans and conducts ongoing education and training
Maintains infection control/safety standards, and is committed to providing and promoting patient-centered communication and care
Requirements:
Must have or be eligible for a DEA license
Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state one works
5 years experience required in specific specialty
management/supervisory experience preferred
Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in SC required
BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice
Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required
License to practice as a Registered Nurse required
Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required
ACNP, AGACNP, AGNP, PNP, or PNP-AC board certification preferred based population served
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling
Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds
Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms
Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity
Must have the ability to react and perform in stressful situations
Nice to have:

ACNP, AGACNP, AGNP, PNP, or PNP-AC board certification preferred based population served
