An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speciality Doctor in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to join a busy and well-established Oral Health Department in the East of England. This fixed-term position offers the opportunity to work within a comprehensive Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service delivering high-quality patient care across outpatient, inpatient, surgical, and emergency settings. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of senior clinicians while gaining broad exposure to the full spectrum of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. The department provides a supportive multidisciplinary environment with excellent opportunities for clinical development, service improvement, teaching, and participation in governance activities.
Job Responsibility
Assist in the assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings
Participate in ward rounds and monitor the progress of inpatients
Undertake effective clinical handovers to colleagues
Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive patient records, both electronic and written
Assist with and perform operative procedures within the scope of practice
Perform minor oral surgical procedures in outpatient settings
Prescribe and administer treatments in accordance with departmental guidelines and clinical competence
Assess and diagnose new referrals, including cancer pathway patients
Review patients within consultant-led clinics
Participate actively in clinical governance, audit, appraisal, and risk management activities
Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
Work collaboratively with consultants, speciality trainees, nursing staff, technicians, and allied healthcare professionals
Requirements
Full GDC Registration
BDS or equivalent dental qualification
Minimum of two years' Dental Foundation Training or equivalent experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Enthusiasm for teaching and service development
Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues and support staff
Ability to present information clearly and respond to questions effectively
Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and professionalism
Nice to have
MFDS RCS or equivalent qualification
Previous involvement in service improvement initiatives
Research experience within Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or related specialties
Published work in a relevant clinical field
Strong presentation skills
Interest in clinical governance, audit, or quality improvement activities
