Job Responsibility:
Planning, organizing, and overseeing daily clinical and administrative operations for designated specialty surgical service
Assisting in developing, recommending, and implementing internal standards, policies, and procedures to improve quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care and sterile processing
Participating in hospital, departmental and multidisciplinary programs, committees, and special projects
Providing OR staff support by preparing the OR suite for surgery and verifying instrument kits are available prior to case start times
Meeting daily with OR Specialty Coordinators at the Collaborative Daily Review to predict instrument needs up to five days in advance
Monitoring case flow throughout the day, tracking instrument needs, and notifying SPD personnel of additional or emergent requirements
resolving issues or providing alternatives as needed
Performing daily audits of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data
Analyzing KPI data to identify trends and operational issues within the operating rooms and SPD
Coordinating planning and communication of priority instruments and turnarounds
informing surgical team of any instrumentation issues that may affect or delay surgery start times
Responding to problem calls from surgery
Processing and cleaning required equipment according to manufacturer guidelines (IFU), using protective equipment as indicated in SOPs
Assisting in ensuring required instrumentation is processed and available for next day, on-call, or weekend cases
Completing documentation for inventory, equipment requests, and instrument sets
Performing other duties as assigned
Working with Coordinators on pick-list updates
Collaborating with Coordinators and physicians to identify kit updates, modifications, and ensure accuracy of count sheets
Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED required
Associate’s Degree Preferred
Required Area of Study in Sterile Processing
Preferred Area of Study in Sterile Processing and Surgical Technology
Minimum of three years’ experience in Sterile Processing required
Five years of Sterile Processing experience preferred
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) OR certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required
SPD Leadership, Instrument Tech, and Endoscopy certification through a nationally recognized accreditation association preferred
Nice to have:
Associate’s Degree
Five years of Sterile Processing experience
SPD Leadership, Instrument Tech, and Endoscopy certification
