Job Description:

This role is instrumental in supporting the development of a new practice management and ordering platform for optometry clinics. The SME will provide a consultative approach to critical domain expertise on optometry workflows and EHR integrations to ensure a seamless, scalable solution for both clinic staff and patients within a fast-paced, high-visibility project environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Serve as the consultative domain authority on optometry practice operations, guiding workflows such as patient intake, demographics, recordkeeping, ordering, and product fulfillment
  • Provide expert insight into optometry EHR and practice management systems, including their use by clinical staff and the expectations around “source of truth” data
  • Collaborate on the design and validation of EHR integration strategies, including data mapping, synchronization logic, and reconciliation workflows
  • Advise on patient-facing features, including portal interactions, order visibility, and usability, highlighting adoption risks and experience improvements
  • Contribute to documentation efforts, including workflow diagrams, requirements definitions, acceptance criteria, and integration mapping
  • Review prototypes and validate system behavior against clinical expectations and requirements
  • Engage in direct collaboration with internal and client stakeholders, operating as a confident, responsive communicator who can think quickly and clearly in dynamic discussions

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in optometry EHR systems, practice management platforms, or clinical operations with a focus on EHR workflows
  • Deep understanding of optometry practice operations, including patient records management, ordering, and fulfillment processes
  • Strong consultative and SME-level presence, with the ability to provide clarity and leadership in both business and technical conversations
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, high-stakes project environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with quick thinking and the ability to adjust on the fly in stakeholder meetings
  • Based in the continental United States and available for one travel engagement per quarter

Nice to have:

  • Experience with EHR integration and interoperability, especially in multi-location deployments
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and PHI considerations in software product development
  • Background in patient portal or consumer-facing healthcare technologies
