The Department of Ophthalmology at The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a full-time Optometrist to join our growing team. This faculty position offers a balanced blend of clinical care, teaching, and research, with opportunities tailored to the candidate’s background, interests, and academic goals.
Job Responsibility:
Provide comprehensive optometric care for patients of all ages
Supervise and teach medical students and residents in both clinical and didactic settings
Participate in community outreach, including participation in JayDoc clinics
Maintain a strong commitment to patient-centered care and uphold professional standards
Serve on departmental and institutional committees
Participate in academic and administrative activities within the School of Medicine
Engage in clinical research and scientific presentations at regional and national conferences
Provide clinical service at the VA Medical Center and other affiliated clinical sites
Requirements:
Doctor of Optometry Degree (OD) from an Accredited School of Optometry
Board certification or eligibility in Optometry
Eligibility for medical licensure in Kansas
Nice to have:
Experience with fitting and care coordination of medically necessary contact lenses
Managing post-operative care for specialty surgeons as needed
Academic experience with a strong interest in teaching and research
Proven ability to develop and grow independent research programs, including securing funding from public and private sources
