Job Description

The Department of Ophthalmology at The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a full-time Optometrist to join our growing team. This faculty position offers a balanced blend of clinical care, teaching, and research, with opportunities tailored to the candidate’s background, interests, and academic goals.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide comprehensive optometric care for patients of all ages
  • Supervise and teach medical students and residents in both clinical and didactic settings
  • Participate in community outreach, including participation in JayDoc clinics
  • Maintain a strong commitment to patient-centered care and uphold professional standards
  • Serve on departmental and institutional committees
  • Participate in academic and administrative activities within the School of Medicine
  • Engage in clinical research and scientific presentations at regional and national conferences
  • Provide clinical service at the VA Medical Center and other affiliated clinical sites

Requirements

  • Doctor of Optometry Degree (OD) from an Accredited School of Optometry
  • Board certification or eligibility in Optometry
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Kansas

Nice to have

  • Experience with fitting and care coordination of medically necessary contact lenses
  • Managing post-operative care for specialty surgeons as needed
  • Academic experience with a strong interest in teaching and research
  • Proven ability to develop and grow independent research programs, including securing funding from public and private sources
