We have an immediate opportunity for an Opto-Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and integration of sophisticated systems used in advanced hardware platforms. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of opto-mechanical components, ensuring high-reliability performance in demanding environments.
Job Responsibility:
Develop opto-mechanical systems, including high-performance optical components, robust mechanical structures, and micro-positioning alignment mechanisms
Serve as the primary technical bridge between mechanical and optical engineering teams to integrate complex assemblies into larger hardware platforms
Ensure designs meet stringent optical performance requirements and maintain compatibility with integrated electronic and structural systems
Lead onsite precision alignment, mounting, and stabilization efforts for sensitive hardware
Develop and execute comprehensive validation plans, performing reliability testing to ensure functionality under extreme specifications
Conduct rigorous optical and mechanical analysis to optimize system performance and mitigate the risk of assembly failure
Prepare and maintain detailed design specifications, test reports, and technical manuals to ensure scalability and maintainability
Manage timelines, resources, and budgets for specialized engineering tasks within a fast-paced environment
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred)
At least five years of experience designing and building opto-mechanical systems in a high-precision manufacturing or aerospace environment
Minimum 2 years of experience with Zemax (CodeV acceptable) and basic proficiency in stray light analysis (FRED, LightTools, or similar)
Advanced skills in cleaving, splicing, core-alignment, high-density routing, and link engineering/loss budgeting
Proficiency in CAD for structural design and integration
Practical experience with interferometry, autocollimators, and precision measurement tools
Strong understanding of optical surface fabrication and polishing techniques
Applied knowledge of Seidel, Zernike, and chromatic aberrations
Demonstrated ability to instruct and mentor technicians and entry level engineers in a rapidly evolving development environment
Nice to have:
Expertise in STOP (Structural, Thermal, Optical Performance) analysis and high-power thermal damage testing (CW LIDT)
Experience with non-imaging systems, lightpipes, waveguides, and diffractive optics
Ability to develop object-oriented code in Python for automation or data analysis
Experience managing custom optical component procurement and building technical vendor relationships
Exceptional ability to interface with multi-disciplinary teams and prioritize tasks in a time-sensitive environment
