Job Description

The Optical Test Engineer owns electro-optics lab capability at the Haifa site and enables accurate, repeatable characterization of optical components and systems. This role partners with global teams to maintain common lab standards, develop instrument-control software, and deliver data-driven test reports that guide product and tester improvements.

Job Responsibility

  • Own day-to-day operation of the electro-optics lab at the Haifa site, including equipment readiness and calibration
  • Procure, qualify, and maintain optical/electrical test equipment and ensure safe lab practices, including laser safety requirements
  • Develop and maintain unified instrument-control software (e.g., Python/Matlab-based) to enable consistent, automated measurements
  • Evaluate optical instrumentation capability and expected performance impact on tested parts
  • define measurement strategy and limits
  • Design experiments to meet requirements (including specifying and sourcing required hardware), execute tests, and analyze results
  • Document findings through clear test reports, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Research and implement improvements to current testers and measurement methods
  • drive increased throughput, accuracy, and repeatability
  • Collaborate with the optical lab in the US to maintain process and tooling commonality across sites

Requirements

  • BSc in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in optical or electrical testing and/or development environments
  • Hands-on experience using lab instrumentation and understanding instrument capabilities, limitations, and measurement impact
  • Programming/scripting skills (Python preferred
  • Matlab a plus) and strong proficiency with Excel for analysis and reporting
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
  • Demonstrated ability to tackle complex technical challenges and develop innovative solutions
  • Ability and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced R&D environment
  • Good English written and verbal communication skills, including writing test reports
  • Willingness to travel up to once every two months
