Job Description:

The Ophthalmology Assistant supports ophthalmologists in delivering efficient and high-quality eye care services by assisting in patient examinations, diagnostic procedures, and minor clinical interventions. The role involves preparing patients for eye assessments, operating basic ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation of clinical findings. The incumbent is responsible for facilitating smooth patient flow within the ophthalmology unit, maintaining clinical hygiene standards, and ensuring readiness of instruments and equipment. They assist in conducting preliminary vision tests, such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurement (under supervision), and basic screening procedures. Additionally, the Ophthalmology Assistant plays a key role in patient education by guiding individuals on eye care practices, medication usage, and post-procedure instructions.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations and minor procedures
  • Conduct preliminary eye assessments (visual acuity, basic vision tests) under supervision
  • Prepare and maintain ophthalmic instruments and diagnostic equipment
  • Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and handling of ophthalmic devices
  • Support in diagnostic procedures such as tonometry, refraction support, and imaging (as trained)
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assist in documentation
  • Manage patient flow, appointment coordination, and basic administrative tasks
  • Provide patients with instructions on eye care, medication use, and follow-up visits
  • Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols
  • Assist in inventory management of ophthalmic supplies and consumables

Requirements:
