Job Description:

The Ophthalmic Assistant performs a variety of clinical duties necessary to the daily operations of the Eye Center.

Job Responsibility:

  • Conducting the patient intake process concerning chief complaint, medical history, and medication reconciliation
  • Performing a variety of ophthalmic tests and measurements in preparation of the provider's assessment
  • Maintaining infection control standards by sterilizing surgical instruments and cleaning the equipment and exam rooms regularly

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Ophthalmic Certification (COA/COT) preferred
  • Previous experience in the ophthalmic/optometric field preferred but not required
  • Basic knowledge of the use and operation of general office equipment

Nice to have:

  • Ophthalmic Certification (COA/COT) preferred
  • Previous experience in the ophthalmic/optometric field preferred but not required

  • Conduct advanced ophthalmic testing, including but not limited to: A- or B-scan calculations, Visual Fields, Pachymetry, Corneal Topography, Heidelberg Retina Tomography (HRT), and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
  • Assist physicians with in-office procedures, adhering to established protocols and within the scope of training
  • Administer ocular medications as prescribed by the physician
  • Provide patient education and counseling regarding medication use and pre- and post-operative guidelines
  • Ensure accurate completion of fee sheets for data entry
