This employee will conduct daily maintenance of the buildings and equipment at the facility. Manages the flow of grain dumped into the elevator and loaded out into trucks (and rail cars in some sites). Monitors grain in storage and maintains condition with aeration or turning to keep grain in good condition. At times, oversees the weighing and grading of grain before it is dumped into the grain elevator.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct daily maintenance of the buildings and equipment at the facility
Manage the flow of grain dumped into the elevator and loaded out into trucks (and rail cars in some sites)
Monitor grain in storage and maintain condition with aeration or turning
Oversee the weighing and grading of grain before it is dumped into the grain elevator
Perform all duties in a safe environmentally compliant manner
Ensure grain facilities are well maintained by adhering to a strict maintenance schedule
Repair and rebuild equipment
Clean and prepare storage facilities including grain bins and ground piles
Load trains when shipping grain to a customer facility (if at a rail loading facility)
Visually monitor grain and grain products for irregularities
Assist in the unloading of grain from trucks
Weigh/measure grain output on trucks
Recognize when equipment is not operating properly
Know how to safely shut down and isolate equipment for maintenance using Lock Out – Tag Out procedures
Immediately report all accidents and/or injuries
Know and understand the operation of the skid loader, front-end loader, yard tractor, and lawnmower
Operate dryers when needed
Assist in performing maintenance work as required
Perform housekeeping as related
Keep current and maintain all training requirements
Check fire extinguishers monthly
Wear proper PPE
Plan the day’s work in advance
Train new hires and seasonal employees as needed
Work as weighmaster when needed
Requirements:
High School Education or equivalent
Good people-orientation skills
Prior experience working in a grain facility is preferred
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
Comfortable working at heights
Able to lift up to 75 pounds
Comfortable climbing fixed and stationary ladders
Able to shovel as needed
Ability to work in confined spaces and in a broad range of climate conditions
Comfortable utilizing mobile and stationary equipment and systems
Ability to read, react, demonstrate common sense, and endure long hours during harvest
Ability to respond to common inquiries, suggestions, and special requests
Ability to effectively present information to supervisor, customers, and fellow employees
