Job Description

Brook Street are currently recruiting for Operational Support Officers to join a busy court environment in Southampton. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable public sector experience within the Ministry of Justice. This role is primarily a court usher position, combined with some general administrative duties. You will play a key part in supporting the smooth running of the court on a daily basis.

Job Responsibility

  • Welcoming and assisting court users, including members of the public, legal professionals, and judiciary
  • Preparing courtrooms and ensuring proceedings run efficiently
  • Calling cases and escorting parties in and out of courtrooms
  • Supporting judges and magistrates during hearings
  • Maintaining order and professionalism within the court environment
  • Completing general administrative tasks, including document handling and data entry

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Confident dealing with a wide range of people, including challenging situations
  • Good IT skills and attention to detail
  • Organised, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks
  • A team player with the ability to use initiative

Nice to have

Previous experience in a customer-facing role (e.g. retail, hospitality, or public service)
