Entry level role in the rollingstock maintenance team. On the job relevant training opportunities. Permanent position offering professional growth and opportunities. Aurizon is offering an exciting opportunity to kick-start your career in rail through our Operational Maintainer (Rail Shunter) Traineeship in Esperance. As a trainee, you’ll be part of a structured program where you’ll gain practical, hands-on experience while completing a nationally recognised qualification in rail operations (shunting). You’ll work alongside experienced team members in a fast-paced environment, developing the skills needed to build a long-term career with Australia’s largest rail freight operator.

Job Responsibility:

  • Control the movement of trains and carry out relevant instructions always maintaining safety
  • Inspect for faults, repair, service and maintain rollingstock
  • Support maintenance of locomotives, ancillary vehicles, machines, and equipment
  • Conduct brake testing of trains
  • Effectively communicate with other depot personnel as well as clients and operational staff including train control face to face and via two-way radio
  • Undertake shunting and marshalling of trains
  • Other duties as requested

Requirements:

  • C Class Drivers Licence (mandatory)
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills
  • A willingness to workday & night shift (up to 12hr shifts) and including weekend work as required
